TERMS, CONDITIONS AND RULES OF LOWER ITCHEN FISHERY LTD - ("THE COMPANY")

Rods are responsible for showing these rules to their guests. In the event that any rod or guest of a rod breaks these rules the Company reserves the right to immediately terminate their agreement and no refund of rod fees will be made.

Trout Season Rods

  1. Season: 24th April 2026 to 7th October 2026.
  2. Fishing may not commence before *9.00 a.m. (unless by prior arrangement) and shall cease 1 hour after sunset. *In order to assist with weed cutting on the river we reserve the right to delay the fishing start time until 10.30a.m during weed cut and clearing down days in May, June, July and August, as set by the Test & Itchen Association (a copy of these dates is available on request). PLEASE RING THE DAY BEFORE TO CHECK during these periods.
  3. Beats: The trout fishing is divided into 5 beats the appropriate position of which are shown for illustrative purposes on the plan on the reverse of this form. Beats are allocated in rotation and rods will be sent a beat rota prior to the commencement of the season. Rods must keep strictly to the beat allocated to them and not under any circumstances stray onto other beats.
  4. Methods of Fishing: Upstream dry fly. Single fly only. Maximum size of hook permitted - size 12. (Barbless hooks to be used when releasing fish). Upstream nymph may be allowed, at the discretion of the bailiff.
  5. No fish under 12" in length to be killed unless diseased or in very bad condition. Any salmon caught MUST be returned but recorded to the keeper. All grayling caught must be returned.
  6. Guest Tickets: Weekly beats receive 8 guest tickets and fortnightly beats receive 4 guest tickets for the whole season. Not more than one of these shall be used on any one day. A guest ticket entitles the bearer to fish with or without his host present. That is to say, 2 rods (but only 2 rods) may be used on the same beat when a ticket is used. Guest tickets must be handed to the Bailiff before fishing starts on that day and rods should inform the Bailiff if a guest is coming. Extra guest tickets may be obtained, subject to availability, at an additional cost.
  7. Limits: The bag limit for the day is 4 fish killed. The beat holder may then continue fishing but must release all fish caught. The bag for 2 rods (one of whom must use a guest ticket, is limited to 6 fish per day).
  8. Records: All catches must be recorded on the day of capture in the Fishing Record book.
  9. Payment: Full payment or a 50% deposit with the booking form will secure your booking, subject to availability (returnable if your chosen day is unavailable). Any balance due must be received by 1st March 2026. If full payment has not been received by that date the management reserves the right to re-let the rod and no monies paid will be returned.

  10. All catch and release fish must be recorded in the record books (including sea trout).
  11. Payment: Full payment or a 50% deposit with the booking form will secure your booking, subject to availability (returnable if your chosen day is unavailable). Any balance due must be received by 31st January 2026. If full payment has not been received by the above date, the management reserves the right to re-let the rod and no monies paid will be returned.

* In order to preserve salmon stocks, in exceptional years during prolonged very hot spells it may be necessary either to suspend salmon fishing at 1pm should the water temperature at 9.00 a.m. that morning be 19oc or above, or cease fishing when temperatures reach 20 oc. (Depending on current advice from the Environment Agency). During such hot spells we suggest you contact the keeper in the morning before setting off to check the water temperatures and if they are too hot to change your fishing day if wished
